Why telling your dog off is not recommended

The vast majority of households that I go to help are already in a habit of telling their dog off.  At the very least saying “No” or “Aa ah”, in some case much more lengthy and forcefully.  One of my jobs is to let them know that this isn’t a great idea to do, and I’d like to share why not in this article.  I must say before you read on that I am aware that (if you are telling them off) it’s often (more…)

Why does my dog shake?

Assuming firstly that you aren’t talking about the classic dog shake – getting rid of water scenario (and covering everyone else with it) – my old long haired boy Sandy (pictured) was fabulous at this!  His long hair absorbed so much water, and when he shook it was like being sprayed with a hose!

Is your fearful dog Scooby Doo, or Scrappy?

This was one of the programmes that I grew up on, and I’m sure many of us are familiar with the two different characters, Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo?

For some reason this programme popped back into my mind this week, when I was thinking about the different ways that our pet dogs respond to something that they perceive to be a danger.
